Default throttle bodys

If anybody has purchased and installed an aftermarket throttle body on a 4.6L GT mustang, did it give you a noticeable performance improvement? Also, What were some common difficulties; like idle hang or idle problems and how did you fix them.

(Any or all throttle body recomendations are welcome).

Thanks, Joey S.

just a throttlebody alont is only worth a couple of horse power hardly noticable. with a few other mods it'll help in the top end.

I added the Accufab throttle body and Plenum combo on the stock motor before I had my S/C and my car was not at all any faster. It may have even been a tenth slower. Don't waiste your money unless you have forced induction. The combo does look good though if that's any consulation.

An accufab TB and C&L plenum was determined to be the best combo but you're talking a couple of horsepower. The one thing you'll notice though is that the throttle is a little more responsive since pushing on the pedal really allows alot more air through. The money is better put in your savings acount toward a power adder.

Joey,

Not enought info. If you have headers, mid pipe, and cat back, then you should see an improvement. P&P (PI) heads and intake, cams, blah, blah, blah, will benefit from the new tb. Unless you have forced induction, you only need a 70mm anyway.

Before you my a plenum or tb, work the exhause issues, CAI, pulleys, blah, blah. The tb can come much later.

No real point in the tuner until he has done some significant bolt ons.

this is off topic but, in your sig it says that you are going to get FRPP shortie headers, dont. in 5.0 mustangs they did a dyno and if make a wopping 1-2 hp over stock headers, if you really want to squeeze all the hp out just take your stock exhause manifolds and have them gel flowd (i think thats what its called) it will be better then stock but you wont pich up and niticable hp with out 'getting LT headers

I know the LTs make better power, but they become a royal pain for any tranny work. The headaches are just not worth it to me. With the mid pipe and cat back, they will flow much better than stock. I thought about the JBA mid lengths, but recently heard that they don't fit well at all. I may still go with the BBK ceramic coated shorties, but I can get the FRPP jet hot coated for $335. The jet hot coating is worth a lot, even if the flow rate vs. stock is the same. Hell, I'd like to have the mid pipe jet hot coated too. Anyway, while certainly I'm after power gains, I'm balancing that with the abiltiy to maintain the car without making more work for myself, especially since I do all the work myself and I'm careful about affecting my warranty.

Also, MM&FF did a shortie comparison using an '05. The difference between stock and ANY shortie was 2 hp. JBA, Bassani, FRPP, & MAC. JBA did the best followed by FRPP. MAC and Bassani actually LOWERED hp and tq. That was interesting. Yeah, this is only about shorties and somewhat proves your point. BUT, it does show that spending $600 for JBA vs $350 for FRPP is silly.

Thanks for the tip. BTW, the 5.4 is coming along nicely. How go the heads? I look forward to seeing it between fenders. Are you doing it all in silver and is that high temp paint?

Also, the NOV MM&FF has an interesting article on pg 182 I think you'll find interesting. It's on a process called Mikronite. If you have that near you, it might be worth looking into for your 5.4 build. Just FYI.
