Default 4.6 2003 GT Shifting Problems

I have some problems, listed below. Found other threads on some individual issues, but none with all, and I think they all might be related. I'd like some feedback before I spend too much $$$.

I have a 2003 GT. shifted perfectly. One day, heading to firehouse for a fire call ( so yes, was driving a bit agressive ), lost my clutch pedal. went to floor and was "free". Brought to mechanice. Said I snapped the cable (thought I had hydraulic?? ) and he replaced.

Since I got it back, it feels like I can't full engage clutch. Feels like I could go another 2 or 3 inches past the floor. Symptoms:

1) After car running for a while, almost unable to shift.
2) When trying to force into gear (with clutch to the floor), as I force, I can see RPM's starting to slow down.
3) Shifting when car is turned off is no problem. Goes right in.
4) Reverse seems to always grind. Gotta slam it in and cringe while I wake the neighborhood with the grinding sound.
5) Again, reverse also shifts into gear with engine off with no problem.
6) With clutch all the way to floor, car still feels like its about to stall, as if I'm letting up on clutch at a red light without throttle, which I'm not.

Mechanic told me I might need a new clutch. How can this be, if RIGHT before the cable snapped, it was shifting PERFECTLY. I can't see it going from perfect to undrivable overnight.

HELP!!! Thoughts?? Really hoping its just a cable adjustment.

your clutch is not releasing. pull up on the pedal with your hand till it ratchets, this will reset the automatic adjuster mechanisim. also because the clutch cable broke it may have been binding for some time, this will damage the quadrant (where the pedal end of the cable hooks to) as they are only plastic. inspect, if its damaged i recommend replacing it with an aluminum piece and the matching firewall adjuster, much more durable
