clutch adjustment not working
#3
The only thing pulling up on the pedal will do is let slack out of the cable one tooth at a time on the quadrant. But it will only self adjust if its needed. If your not experiencing slipping or drive-ability issues it probably just isn't ready to self adjust yet.
If you are having problems with slipping or shifting then it is quite possible the clutch is almost done and the adjustment has reached the maximum slack on the cable.

thanks...i've had the car 2.5 years...the clutch engages like a switch, right off the floor...it pulls like a train, no slip...sometimes, when hustling, the gears do grind a bit when shifting. i just want more clutch travel for smoothness

If you want the clutch to disengage farther from the floor, you need to take up some of the slack in the cable. You will need to lay on the floor and look up at the quadrant,, press the pedal to the floor and using a large screw driver hold the quadrant in place and lift the pedal slowly from the floor. It will click ,, you only want to do about 1-2 clicks and that will make the cable shorter so the clutch disengages sooner.
