Default Negative battery cable ?

98 GT

My negative battery cable is corroded pretty far down and the dealer is telling me it can't be replaced by itself but that the whole wiring harness has to be replaced instead. He says it's all one unit and that's the only way to fix it. Does this sound right to any of you? I can't get down to the dealer to take a look at it myself and see if that's really the case or not. I would think just the negative cable could be swapped out and connected into the wiring harness.

Any thoughts?

Adam

I have the same issue with the same direction from the Ford dealer. I was wondering how you resolved your problem.

I never found anyone who thought they could replace it by itself, so I just had the dealer swap out the whole harness. If I'd had a little more time to look at it myself I think there might have been a way to do it, but I don't know for sure. I think the new harness cost a couple hundred dollars at the time.

Alenhard,
Thanks for the quick reply. I will have my local mechanic take a look, he is very reliable and quite good. I'll let you know if he comes up with a solution or I need to have the harness replaced as well.
Thanks !
