Default Installing headers

I am in the process of replacing my clutch. I just broke one of the header bolts that connects to the h-pipe. Ford made the worst design putting that damn nut behind the starter!!!!!! So I was thinking since I am going to have to take that header off the either tap it or get a new one. Why not just put on some long tubes while I am at it.

My qustion is, can I install longtube headers with out the transmission on? I would like to lift out my engine partially and bolt up the longtubes and then bolt the transmission on. Or do the headers get in the way of the trans. Otherwise how would I bolt the headers on. there is practically no room to get a tool in there to bolt them on... How is it done??

Also if I buy longtube headers and a high flow catted x-pipe. Will I be able to pass emissions. I live in CT so not as strict as CA.

The LTs will interfere with the tranny. You'll have to have the tranny bolted on BEFORE, or leave the header bolts loose so you have some play to maneuver the tranny through. I also recommend Stage 8 header bolts. You can ebay them for about $35.

I don't know about CT emmissions, but I think you'll be fine with a catted X. You will need O2 extensions to reach the rear sensors. They run $40 on ebay from mustangwarehouse.com

I am going to buy the BBK ceramic LT header and BBK catted x-pipe. Does this set up still use the four 02 sensors that the stock setup use? Or do I just use 2? Because I don't know if I should purchase 2 pairs of 02 extension wires or just one. Thanks.

Also is the ceramic headers really that much better than the chrome ones? Do the chrome ones rust real fast??

You can have your tuner turn off the back 2 O2 sensors. That's what I did and just put dummy sensors on the holes.

I heard that if you have longtubes and a catted x-pipe then you have to reprogram the computer and then it will pass emmisions.
