Default Basic Mods for a Newbie

I just got a 1998 Mustang GT with 53,000 Miles on it. It's not tied, but I'd really prefer A LOT more grunt, 1-2nd gear power. I have about $1,500 to spend, including install. I've been reading a lot here, but I don't think that gears are practical, as my parents are paying for gas (I know, I'm spoiled, but hey, I played for the car). I would like some basic suggestions (If you could stay away from Mustang lingo, that's be great)

I look foward to reading your replies.

If you want some more snot for 1st & 2nd gear...get some 4.10 rear end gears.

$200 for the gears and $200-300 for the install.

Follow up gears with a cat-back exhaust and H-pipe or X-pipe, whichever you like. Most people like X-pipe better. Then a cold-air intake with K&N filter. Also add an aftermarket shifter if you can afford it. Steeda Tri-ax.

And save the difference for the gas. Just kidding, yes, the first mod should be new gears, 3.73's or 4.10.A Cold air intake, Some nice mufflers for good sound and still you have some money left for the chicks

Hahaha... Thanks guys. I guess I'll see what the local shops want for a gera install.... most likely an arm and/or a leg. Gotta love Northern Va. I've heard a lot about intakes, MAFs? vs. CAI

I thought MAFs were the mass airflow sensors in the intake tube.

Also, is a new plenum more beneficial than a new TB or do I have to get both?

Thanks Again.
