Default open headers on the way home??

O.K. here's the problem I got my girlfriend to get my LT headers(X-mas gift) early and they are on there way. After she ordered them I went ahead and added a o/r LT BBK x pipe to go with it, so they both would come together. After examing the h*** out of my car, lifting it, and looking through out the exhaust system I decided that I would get a shop to install the LT headers. I went to various shops to get prices for installation and they all say 65, 70, or 75 an hour and Modular power house(MPH) just gave me a flat $500 fee. I don't want to go somewhere that charges by the hour and end up paying for 8,9,or 10 hours cuz they don't know wtf they are doing or they charge me for those hours because i wasn't there to see how long it takes. So i will probally go to MPH and pay $500. But I only want to get the headers install because I can do the X pipe, and MPH will charge me for it. So do you think I should drive it home with just the headers on and install the xpipe when i get there, its like a 45 min drive mostly freeway? Or will it be bad for my mostly stock engine? what do you guys think.

IDK it's up to you. You'll loose some back pressure w/o the full exhaust but it shouldn't hurt for just the drive home. If you do though bring some ear plugs because it'll be loud as **** [:@]

Good question, I thought about the same thing for my setup, I would hate to pay someone to install an x-pipe since it is so easy. Truthfully if you live 45 minutes away, I would pull the thing across the street into AutoZone or something, slide under the car and install them on the spot. Should line up perfectly and even in a driveway I bet you could do it in less than 20 minutes. Nice girlfriend, I'll be happy if my wife lets me buy headers with my own money.

The mid pipe install, especially for long tubes, is very easy, so you'll only be saving yourself maybe an hour of labour. I'd go all or nothing.

But if you do end up driving it with open header make a video that will sound awesome... me and my buddy did it with his 5.0 once and it's sounded RAUNCHY!

hoestly MPH will prolly install the headers and x-pipe all for $500. it'll just be like extra long headers lol i mean once they have the exhuast off and put the headers on it'll be so easy to get the x-pipe on there.

i wish my gf would do something like that for me? got her whipped ehh? jk

id think that MPH would be generious and say hey we just charged this guy 500 bucks for headers, im sure we can slap on that midpipe. Thats what im expecting out of the exhaust place thats doing my headers this weekend.

to install the headers you have to remove the mid pipe in the first place so what would the diffrence be in replacing it with a new pipe.

OK this is kinda of this topic, but I am going to get a borla exhaust system for Christmas and then later on get the Lt headers and X-pipe. So will I have to uninstall the exhaust system again to add the new X-pipe and LT headers, or will they just slip right back into place???

No you're going to unbolt your catback from your midpipe and work your way up from there.

But I'm sure that they would just throw it on while they are under the car it wouldn't take them that long at all since it is already up in the air.
