RE: PI intake swap
About 16 hp I think, if you have mods it can make as much as 35hp, but on a stock motor its about 16. but you need adapter plates.

RE: PI intake swap
So your saying i could get a PI Intake Manifold and it would work just fine without adding anything but a gasket?
You got anything else done to your car beside the manifold and exhuast and CAI that would help power, cause you ran more than 1sec faster than i did and your in a vert. |
RE: PI intake swap
Well, when I take my stang to the track, I run barebone. Although I have a vert, I remove the backseat, all trunk contents, including spare tire, etc. That, and I am a damn good driver. Or maybe the track is just very generous, as I've always expected. ;-)
As for what you need for the swap: two PI gaskets (duh), an alternator bracket (if you don't want to drill yours), a PI heater hose (the shape of the PI manifold needs another curvy one to go around it in the valley of the engine)--and there is one big caveat: PI manifolds have only one hole drilled for the temp sensor/temp switch. Our non-PI 96 gts have two sensors, one on each side of the manifold crossover. You need to drill it, or get one that has both holes predrilled. If you need more info on this, let me know. Cheers! RE: PI intake swap
yea doing a head swap would be too much work and cash for me so i was thinking about just doing the intake swap...so all I would need is the mentioned things?
|
RE: PI intake swap
Yes. But please do not underestimate the pain in the ass that will be a manifold without the pre-drilled hole for the sensor. Take it to a machine shop, or buy one with it on. Here is a good guide to the head-swap:
http://www.bossracing.net/Tech%20Art...ap%20page1.htm Study it well before you drop $1500. God luck! Oh, and funny anecdote: I raced a 2002 gt vert from a stop last night. We were neck to neck up to 110 mph. I know the head swap adds a hell of a difference, but its wise to remember: you'll get a LOT more performance for free if you really learn how to drive your car--shift, etc. Good luck! |
RE: PI intake swap
yea i've seen this boss walkthru b4 it seems pretty informative, but is there any walkthrough for doing just a intake swap?
|
RE: PI intake swap
Well, the intake swap is the first part of the head swap. Necessary first step. But I guess I could walk you through with pictures. But before I spend all my time doing that, make sure you want to do the swap in the first place. In any regard, I don't see why you can't follow the BOSS walkthrough and disregard the steps having to do with the heads....

RE: PI intake swap
well im def not ready this second, just interested...ill be sure to post when i truly am ready to take the leap...

RE: PI intake swap
OK. Take your time. The manifold swap will entail going from this:

RE: PI intake swap
To this:
Notice that the gasket is a PI gasket--its ports are much bigger than the ports on the asthmatic 96 GTs. |
