Are stage 2 cams too much for a daily driver? If I were to get stage 1 cams, what else would have to be done. I already have a midpipe and cat-backs and I am getting long-tube headers soon. I have a cai if that means anything too. What kind of stuff would I have to do to make sure my car is ready for after-market cams? Thanks -Kyle
I have the stage 2s (unfortunatly) and they are not to much for the street. However, like code said you really need to spin the crap outta the motor to realise the potential of the stage 2s. I acutally picked up 30 RWHP at the very top of the band, but I only gained 20 peak RWHP, and the gains were for a very short time. I made more or equal power on the stock cams until somewhere around 5200 RPM. After that it made alot more power, but it was definatly not worth all of the money I poured into it.

One piece of advice on camshafts, if your gonna do em, go ahead and get the heads P&P as well. My shop was only gonna charge me like 300 bucks more to pull the heads off, and maybe 500 to do the P&P job.

Hell, if I had known then what I do now, I would have done the job myself and have a 310+ RWHP car. Unfortunatly, the internet is full of bad ideas

P&P stock heads versus lets say VT heads

whats better?

will P&P the heads do it for the stage 2 cams or do i need forged internals as well?

what do you recommend with the whole P&P stock heads and VT heads? i want nice gains cuz my cars all paid off but i don't want to spend what i would on a S/C unless the gains will be similar

Well, VT, Fox Lake and MPH heads are not cheap and will not get you the gains, a S/C will. And like I said, to reach the full potential of big cams, especially in the 4.6's, you need to twist the hell out of them. My peak HP is at 6400rpms and it doesn't flatline until after 6700rpms.

yeah, I have a new VT prepped block. Stage 2 heads are around $2500.00, cams around $600.00, springs...$300.00, P51 intake, complete kit is $1300.00. Hope this helps. You can also call Scott @ VT, tell him Mitch told you to call.

Yeah, but my car has some sentimental value. My wife bought it for me and has let me MOD THE HELL out of it
