all GT's have a solid rear, and all recent cobras have independent rear suspension. the irs will give you a better ride, but won't be as good for launching in a drag race. also, the cobras have more power (different years have different HP). trannies are different, too.

Get a 96+ Cobra or a 99+ GT. You should be able to get a 99-00 for no more than 12k. The cobra you would probably have to get a 96-98 to stay in that 12k price range.

If you have 12k to spend on a Mustang, you should definately go with a 96-98 Cobra. The reason I say this is b/c they come stock with 305 hp(which if more than a stock 99+gt), and I think they look bad from the facory. The only thing you really need to do to those cars to get them lookin good is lowering. You can pick them up anywhere from low 10's to your price range. Pick up your local Auto traderand take a look at some and go drive one and see how you like it.

Yeah, since you want the best, it's going to have to be a Cobra. DOHC vs. SOHC for the GT, more horsepower and torque.

i got a 99 gt convertible for 11k.. and i love it. i found one with decent miles (55k).. and in good condition.

i've never driven a cobra, so i can't really compare.. but if you're really into speed, then i would suggest the cobra. but if you're concerned with speed AND looks, i'd say a 99+ gt.. everyone has their opinion, but i think the majority would agree that 99+ look better..

of course, if you don't mind the 98s styling, then go for the cobra.. i, myself, couldn't do it.. had to have 99+. but i do wish my car was faster.. blah.

Also cobras are all 4 valves, verses the 2 valge GT , I have a GT and i love it, but the cobras will except mods a lot easier, and will come stock with more hp and performance, and will also be able to handle more hp than a stock GT can, so i hope this helps!

yeah but you have to understand that everyone has their own personal preference on cars, bodies, colors, etc. my avice is to no really care what other people think and just go for YOU want, not what other people want you to get. A persons car tells a lot about who they are.....so choose the car you like the most.
