Hell yes you better get a shifter. It's a world of difference. I'd do the exhaust and shifter first b/c that's what you will notice the most. You will feel the shifts everyday and you will hear the exhaust.

I know a whole bunch of people with stock shifters and if you know how to shift then you dont need a shifter, its just money for something else that would add power to your car.

You should evaluate what you want from the car next, more power or handling (if you take it to the track). IMO, get the car breathing better, cat back then work forward with the exhaust. Do the induction next, shifter, programmer and timing adjuster with a good dyno tune, then wrap your wheels.

Well then your drag radials will be at the top of your list. Also get upper and lower control arms.

XBC have you ever driven a mustang with a short throw shifter? Have you seen a short throw compared to the stock shifter? Just looking at it, you can tell how much of a difference it makes. Not to mention most are spring loaded for the 2-3 shift which on a stock shifter is a mile away. If you haven't driven one then don't put it down. The 200 spent on the shifter is a much better than 200 spent on a cold air kit.

Here's the order I did things when I first got my car.

Mufflers
CAI-now looking back kinda, expensive but had the bling bling
Gears
TB and plenum
Holley NOS dry kit

Poof...instant 12.5's.

Now, that I have been around the 4.6 for awhile, I don't think I would do it much different. The car was consistent and daily driving was not affected.

With the set up, I have now...I have everything done to a N/A 4.6 that you can possibly do. My compression ratio and cam size border on streetability and I am as fast and sometimes a little faster N/A than I was on the juice.

If you dont get a shifter I dont care how good you are, you will be spending money on that tranny instead of power. Get the shifter first or second. That tranny is 6 years old take care of it they are fragile
