simple what is a scoop for.. TO flow air thro..hmmm they dont flow air thro cause they are blocked..BUT if the work is done they are made to cool..What is the purpose of cutting out the hood scoop on a gt..to flow cool air to the motor and cool it.. so what is the purpose of air going into the wheel well...NOT to cool the tire but cool the BRAKES.. NO BRAINER

in the racing world functional scoops r a must have. you have to buy a high priced kit to get ram air. not worth the money.

bottom line

the scoops are for looks on our mustangs

Your so smart you get an A for today. Of course they are for looks, if they aren't functional..BUT BOTTOM LINE if you take the money and time..they can be functional.. FOR COOLING THE BRAKES IS WHAT THEY WOULD BEFORE.. botom line !

Again, the factory hood scoop is pretty much "taped" on, but you can cut out (with a sawzall) under the hood scoop, and through the heat shield stuff on the hood, sand the edges down and viola, you've got forced air onto motor, but again, it honestly doesnt serve a purpose, unless you use duct work to force the air into your air intake, and then again, forced "RAM" air isn't effective until higher rates of speed, and only give really small gains...
If you don't have ductwork, then you'll have hole in your hood, leading to the engine... with no drain.... so it'll put cold rainwater directly on you're engine... not very good for it, ya know?

mike think about it...you have two cars identical(only difference is one has scoops opened the other one has them blocked) to each other with the same exact driver and each lap driven perfectly with both cars who do you think would win the guy with ram air and cooling the brakes or the guy with the scoops blocked...in the racing world you have to take advantage of every aspect

I have a 98 GT and i saw the eariler Mustangs have holes in the side scoops and i took a 1/4' drill and drilled out most of the holes and go to Ford and have them look up the inside vents for the 94/95 Mustangs. i then drilled out 2- 1 1/2" holes on the inside of fenders and installed the vents to keep brakes cool.the vents were under $15.00. installed with 3 screws. the had ABC scoops glued on. not with the 3M tape becuase the will come off at high speeds.
