not really a great idea cutting out your hood to make the scoop work. what happens when it rains? your kinda askin for trouble.

in the racing world functional scoops r a must have. you have to buy a high priced kit to get ram air. not worth the money.

bottom line

the scoops are for looks on our mustangs
mike think about it...you have two cars identical(only difference is one has scoops opened the other one has them blocked) to each other with the same exact driver and each lap driven perfectly with both cars who do you think would win the guy with ram air and cooling the brakes or the guy with the scoops blocked...in the racing world you have to take advantage of every aspect
thats what i was saying in racing you want the scoops. we aren't racing (meaning road racing competitively)

no but if you get the duct work it's kinda different.....and it does produce some gains. marginal ones but nevertheless.

the first stangs had functional side scoops to cool the brakes. i think it was the 62 model, then they started just making them simulated nonfunctional.

The first Mustang came out halfway through 64 (although if you're speaking of one of the prototypes, it seems to have a fuctional side scoop), so that cannot be completely correct (unless talking about prototype). I'm not sure if the early model's side scoops were functional or not though, they were present, but it's been a while since I've seen one up close and can't remember if they are just for show or not.

those were the only functional sidescoops on a mustang that i know of.

That's the one I noticed when looking around just after I made that post and quickly edited it. It appears to me that the 1969 and 1970 Shelby models had functional scoops on the front and back, although they could just be for show.
