mike think about it...you have two cars identical(only difference is one has scoops opened the other one has them blocked) to each other with the same exact driver and each lap driven perfectly with both cars who do you think would win the guy with ram air and cooling the brakes or the guy with the scoops blocked...in the racing world you have to take advantage of every aspect

the first stangs had functional side scoops to cool the brakes. i think it was the 62 model, then they started just making them simulated nonfunctional.

heres a date for you non believers: october 7th 1962 is when they introduced the mustang 1. it had a german ford v4, it was a 2 seater and was made and designed in about 22 weeks. wow something you actually didnt know nathansmith. learn something new everyday i suppose.
those were the only functional sidescoops on a mustang that i know of.

That's the one I noticed when looking around just after I made that post and quickly edited it. It appears to me that the 1969 and 1970 Shelby models had functional scoops on the front and back, although they could just be for show.
