It is attached to your intake box and feeds into the wheel well. It is perfectly safe to remove it....but you aren't going to notice anything.

That little black plastic thing surrounding your air filter. And you will not get a check engine light if you remove it.

air silencer does what the name suggests. You may gain a HP or 2 by removing it, and you will get a little more engine tone.

Don't remove it. That is a cold air intake and if you remove it it wont be a cold air intake anymore. You cannot possibly gain anything by taking it off. In a way air is forced through the wheel well through the hole and into the breather while driving. Maybe on a dyno you may see some difference cuz there is no air being pushed up through the fender but while driving I wouild think it would be stronger to leave it on. If you take your headlight out you will see better 1/4 mile times forcing even more air through there. A highflow air filter would be the only thing worth changing.

it's not going to hurt anything taking it off. do what YOU want to do. i took mine off and didn't notice any increase in power. it probably gave me an HP. i don't have the stock intake anymore now though.

I don't know if you have a mach or not, but, If you have a mach1, and remove the air silencer, you're CEL WILL come on. The mach's air silencer a.k.a. "milk jug" is past the MAF. Since it is past the MAF, you're engine cannot compensate for the extra air flowing into it, and will cause you to run like crap. BUT, the 'milkjug' is unsightly, and annoying. When you're curising or the car is sitting, the jug is storing HOT air, and when you got WOT, that HOT air is sucked into the motor.... SOunds pretty worthless right? It is. Best thing I did, was got a small piece of SS tubing, made sure it fit the hole, capped it, painted it black, and threw a "FORD" stick on it, looks like something you could buy anywhere. This can also be done with PVC piping (Im doing it on my bro's mach when he comes off of leave) But. the bottom line with the mach1 intake. DO NOT REMOVE THE AIR SILENCER W/O A PLUG! :-p End transmission.

Plain and simple if you take it off you're sucking hot air from the engine compartment rather than cooler air from the fender. If you take it off the car will be slower. I saw where some tuner guys took it off and got like 2HP. They also had the hood open so the air would be much cooler than with the hood closed.

the difference in temperature is so negligable that you will not lose HP. the increased air flow/opening to the filter allows for a higher volume of air to be moved into the filter at the same speed. Honestly i felt absolutely nothing, no gain nor lose in HP. I left it off because it made the engine tone louder which i liked.
