too slow!
i just recently took my 96 gt out to the track. i've heard that it could dolow 15s out the box. i've got an auto trans. w/ shorty headers, bassani off-road xpipe, spintech mufflers, and a k/n. the best i could do is 15.9. i live in hawaii. the track is just about sea level. it wasn't humid. it was pretty cool out by hawaii standards (68F). i launched @ about 1800-2000. any more and my tires broke loose. most stangs are supposed to be about 3300 lbs., right? as i recall, the sticker on the driver side of the door said something in the 4000-4500 lbs. range. what am i doing wrong. i plan to put these mods on immediately: cai w/ 4" tubing, 75mm TB, 95mm mass air, c & l upper intake plenum, timing adjuster, pulleys, and 4.10 gears. where would those mods put me e.t.-wise? thanks

teh 4000-4500 lb is your gvwr. that is your car, with full tank of gas, with 4 people in it, and the trunk full of stuff. if you put some street slicks on your ride, your time would be alot better, if you had traction problems. and the 95mm maf is pretty big, but it wont hurt anything.

well when you go to the track take out the spare and such..also get a set of drag radial to take to the track a big maf about and 80mm leave the t/b alone at this point . no need to add stuff until your get your 60 foot down with li to no tire spin..a shift kit will help a ton as would a stall these should be your next 2 mods after that but in a 4:10 and the timing adjuster..then practice this set up it will be a different car with these mods believe me..<edited><editID>vfast</editID><editDate>38004.4952893518</editDate></edited>

I agree with vfast, I own a 96 gt auto too, I just bought it from a friend and its the closest to stock (belive it or not) as you can get. The only mods are a K&N that I toldhim toget it, and 9mm wires that he got as a present from his girlfriend.</P>
The shift kit is a wise investment, and the race slicks. You should practice a lot with this combination. If you just thow in a lot of mods and bolt ons, you would never know whats working for you. Every mod would affect the performanceof your car in different way. </P>
Also you should consider the pulleys, or wait for a while. If you live in a hot climate as I do, you car would probably run hotter than the usual, especially if you drive it every day.</P>

ok. all the mods i stated are intended for future use because i'm also getting some nitrous and a new torque converter w/in the next year. i don't want to be buying all new parts. anyway, it seems that the 4.10s and slicks would be my best bet, right? i'm under a budget and don't want to be wasting money on a combination of mods that won't work right.</P>
