The motor is gone 7000$ to fix!!!!!
Ok i just gound out from a ford dealer after they did all of the diagnostic tests taht my motor is completely done. First of all the whole car is going to be 7000$ to fix, heres what they said is wrong with it , Number 8 cylinder is gone completely broken, theres a problem with rod bearing, problem with the wrist pin, problem with exhaust manifold its leaking, idler screwd up, and soon theres going to be major problems with the clutch and brakes… SO THESE ARE MY OPTIONS, If the cylinder wall is intact then just get a stroker kit. But because the #8 cylinder is gone, then it was probably bouncing around the cylinder wall which means it probably scratched or cracked it up. So i might just do a complete engine swap, this means im going to need to find either a junkyard motor ( stock 4.6L SOHC, saleen, mach1, or hopefullly cobra) or buy a brand new crate motor. Last but hopefully this isnt the case, im going to have to sell the car , and sadly ill only have enough money to buy maybe an lt1 camaro / firebird ( about 6-7 grand ) but hopefully i can get it fixed or end up with more horsepower.

first, Get away from the dealership, they will rape you.
if money is real tight find a junkyard or used motor cheap. swap and you should be up and running. i think explorers/towncars (certain years) use the same modular motor (4.6l) so that might expand your search horizons.
forged shortblock if you go the cash
why would the exhaust be leaky as well? sounds weird but i dont know much
what year is your car and what state do you live in (to reccomend a Good close builder)and a rough budget would be helpful to help you find the right path

guy f*ck and LT1 get a 5.0 for like 6,000. i see them at that price with superchargers and all done up. you can get a nice one that you could work on for like 2 grand. light and can be super fast not to mention parts are super cheap. also they look so sweet. thats my next project car a 87-93 foxbody but i want to find one with t-tops.

I know this is not going to fix your problem, but I blew the engine in my 1994 Thunderbird SC. It detonated the #3 Cylinder, blew out the end of the plug, and it embedded itself in the cylinder wall (just a little fragment). I only bored that one cylinder, just enough to get the etching out, and put a piston in that would be comparable to the compression of the other five (more recessed if I remember correctly). Had a wicked little idle to it, and it ran perfectly for 75,000 miles on that rebuild until I sold it in 2000. I don't still have a dyno sheet on the car, but after the rebuild (and a few modifications) the car was making over 240 HP at the rear wheels. This was the supercharged 3.8. Factory was 230 HP and 330 lb.ft. I forgot where I was going with this, so I will stop now........................
