How do you double clutch?

RE: How do you double clutch?
Unless you have a lockgate like one of the guys said before, all manuals can be shifted without the clutch. You have to be at the right rmp then just pull it into the next gear. Thats what the syncro's are for. Not sure if its good for it or not but I know every stick I have driven that it could be done. 18 wheelers do it when they are carrying a heavy load to preserve the clutch. I have driven those before also[8D]

I drive a RIG everyday..and yes you can shift gears without ever using the clutch..its all about the correct speed..cant exsplain it ..you just have to feel it. Had to prove it one day to newbie truck driver...he was awe struck when i left my left leg up on the dash while i went thru the gears. Not hard to do really. All about speed and paying attention (listening) to your engine.
And since we are on shifting gears...do any of you ever launch from 2nd gear? Theres plenty of torque in most of your engines to do just that. ?? Just wondering.

It's suppose to prevent excessive synchronizer wear. But I think it's pointless. The clutch is depressed and the shifter is moved to neutral. The clutch is then released, and the gas is depressed to bring the engine speed up to where it needs to be for the lower gear. The clutch is then depressed again and the shift lever moved into the lower gear. When the clutch is released the second time, the engine is already turning the proper speed.

Double clutching is pressing the clutch pedal, moving the shifter to neutral, releasing the clutch pedal, depressing the clutch pedal, puttin the shifter in gear, and then releasing the clutch pedal.
Double clutching, using the clutch twice A lot of big rigs won't go into gear unless you do this.

well you can get the timing right. You can do it like i do and it is pretty fast.
When you are ready to shift start pushing in the clutch, lifiting off the gas, and taking it out of gear. As you hit neutral, you foot should be off the gas, the clutch fully engaged. As you start to put it into the next gear, you should be coming up on the clutch, and depressing the gas. When the clutch is fully engaged you should have just gotten into gear. If you mess it up it will grind! BTW I don't put the clutch all the way to the floor just till it disengages.
4 gears quick
A little slow on second there was a puddle. Kinda get the idea how fast it can be. 2-3rd will be the longest shift, 1-2 and 3-4 are lighting quick.

RE: How do you double clutch?
in today's cars we don't need to double clutch. in older cars when technology wasn't as good as it is today they had cars that required it. today, the only moving vehicles that would use them are 18 wheelers. but yes, karma279 is correct with the reasons why there is such a thing called double clutch.
