Get the LT headers, they will help, unless you have actual proof to support it. Get a catback as well, the car cannot get all the air out as well. Then I would say that you should lose some weight in the car.

Man,
I can't believe you are still running stock cat-back exhaust. I just did my 'o4 and I retained my stock 2 1/4" pipes, and by saving the pipes I cut apart my mufflers with a torch. They are hideously restrictive! Yuck! Toss them babies as soon as you can. If I had the dough I would go for a full 2.5" setup, but even with the stock pipes and flowmaster 40's the power was noticeable and impressive, and I'm still running stock gears. (need to, I commute 45 miles each direction to work). Put your money in a cat backfirst.
Good luck,
John

what you are doing is bottlnecking it. You have all this smooth flow up until the stock mufflers, which were designed for quietness and that's about it. I haven't seen any stock mufflers that have as much flow as aftermarket performance ones. I have a 97 GT with nothin but flowmasters (for now, he he) and it has a bit more zip than before.
You know the last thing I bought for my car was a replacement clock off of ebay... for $9.... school is expensive! (no I do not neglect my car either, I maintain it to a T but I have no mod money)

If i were you get a catback because those stock mufflers suck! Maybe pick up an intake spacer, some LT headers which do HELP and Wont mess anything, maybe some drag springs. There is more you can do so just do it

RE: Boooo @ Mustangs!!!!
Like the majority of people have said...you increased the air flow through the entire engine then stop it with a wall that we call the stock mufflers....All the work you did is being completely shut down by the stock mufflers, get an aftermarket catback and see what difference it makes before putting in the 2800 stall. I just want to see if it makes a big difference for you, because I think it will.

Wait a second here.
The factory mufflers are barely outflowed by Flowmaster. A catback exhaust is going to grab soemone 1-5RWHP IF THAT, so the catback is NOT what is holding back Joey. Those factory catalytic converters are the biggest issue with his exhaust. LT's will help but they aren't always feasible for people.
First thing you need to do is decide if you are able to do LT's or if you want to. Why? Unless you spend big bucks on a interchangable Mid-pipe from SLP which is way over priced, you will need to buy a shortie mid-pipe to accomodate your LT's.
