officially it doesnt stand for anything least according to ford and http://www.ehow.com/facts_5180967_gt...tand-for_.html
but because other car companys say grand touring we assume ford does to, but the phone call to the dealer confirmed it means nothing more than "our signature for faster cars" i personaly prefer it to mean something, if grand touring is it then so be it

You seriously called a dealership to ask them? Ya that's a great source of correct info

LOL. True Story! You can't take ANYTHING you hear from ANYONE at a dealership as even remotely accurate information. If they tell you ANYTHING, get it in writing.

Historically, "GT" has stood for Grand Touring. It's used to denote a package for a vehicle beyond simply getting from one place to another. It denotes a vehicle designed and built just to simply drive with no particular destination.

From the eHow source linked to by zbbow1974:

"However, it comes from the European "gran turismo" ("grand touring") classification."

"it comes from", means that IS what it means...

A "Grand Touring" package designates a "high performance" vehicle that also has the comforts of a road car.

I saw that, however I do not think we should discourage newcomers from browsing through old posts and offering their views and information they might have--sort of like the search function. We all encourage people to use it and then often climb all over them for resurrecting an old thread...
