High stall and shift kit should be the first things you do to an auto. Hands down.

A higher stalled torque converter is the single best thing you can do for that auto. Trust me....
how much is one and about how much is the install?

High Stall converter - changes the engine RPMs that can obtained while the car is in gear and sitting still. Higher stall converter allows the engine to get in a more power power band before it starts pulling the car. Converter change requires pulling the tranny out. Converters range in price from ~200 to ~800 depending on stall and HP input.

Shift kit - controls the point the tranny shifts up or down. The idea hear is to hold gears to near redline or top end of power band before shifting. Changing the servo can also make the shift happen quicker instead of a slow smooth transition between gears. Shift kits can be changed with the tranny in the car by removing the lower pan.

a shift kit firms up your shift points. When you first bought your stang from ford (or wherever), Ford produces an auto to shift comfortably without breaking necks because not every body likes to race mustangs. This however, is rougher on the tranny. When installing a shift kit, your auto now shift quicker and harder, and is actually a mod that will save your tranny if used with a tranny cooler. A stall converter lets your car rev a lot higher than stock, that's why there are converters ranging from 2000 - eh i dunno id say upper 3000 rpms... You should get a certain stall based on your current mods...The converters give you a way better launch off the line than your stock converter...

The install will run you around $300. They're not hard to do yourself...if I had known how easy they were to do at the time, I'd have done it. They are quite expensive though, I got lucky and got mine used and then sent it off to Vigilante for their free "freshening up" and re-stall they do. They'll do it once for up to two years after original purchase. It's Precision Industries, btw.

I only had full exhaust and a stall and gained .5 second in just the 1/8 mile. It's an awesome mod. I have a video of my car after I first got the stall if you're interested in seeing what it's like to drive one. Mine was a 3600 stall.
