Default Headers

Hey guys -

I was wondering if someone coud give me some feedback on headers. I want to get a set but would like to know if it is worth it, could you guys let me know if it gives a noticible difference in power and does it make the exaust sound different. By the way i have a 99' GT automatic.

Thanks in advance,

Long tube headers, I think are worth it. There are alot of maufacturers and price varies. MAC and BBK are probably the most economical other than Flowtech (which I don't recommend) and most popular. SLP is also somewhat popular, but quite expensive. If you want the best and $$ is no object, get Kook's or JBA's.

it definitely makes the exhaust sound different......and they give you gains.......i'm not sure if you'd notice them but they'd be there.

Ok, now, is it MT or AT? What are your goals? What access to tools do you have. From what I've seen (Im running ported stock headers) the 2v is a PITA to get to, and if you want LTs(long-tubes) you'll need a cherry picker to raise the motor a few inches to give you clearance. I know the 4v motor is packed and the 2v isnt physically much smaller (maybe like 1/2" or something) anyhow, Another big thing is price range. That about sums it up. What you looking for, what you have available and what can you afford, with those we can help.

Note: If you want LTs you'l need a new mid-pipe as well

How the hell do you port the stock exhaust manifolds??

BTW you don't need a picker, you just need a jack to move it up a few inches.

It is a total pain, but the gains are well worth it, and so is the sound. Headers will make everything in a bolt on car come together.

I have the same question. I was told not to do the headers because they come loose and that I was better off with a hi-flow cat. Is this true from anyone's experiences?

I had a set of bassani mid-lengths that i swapped even for a set of kooks long tubes and i liked the mid lengths better. the sound was higher pitched and it picked up more torque in the middle where as the long tubes picked up torque down low but after 4400 rpm the torque began to fall with the long tubes where as with the mid lengths the torque held to 5000

no such thing as stock headers on the mustang......if they're stock they're exhaust manifolds.

and i'm less worried about how you'd port them than why you'd port them.

For the best gains, Long Tubes hands down. I know I wouldn't waste my money with shorties, or mid-lengths. My saying is "Do it right, or don't do it at all."
