Default Simple Easy LS1 Question

I was turning right today, and behind me came a Red LS1 Trans Am with the nasty looking hood.

He was beside me before I got the arrow and I asked him if it was stock *i konw, generic conversation starter* and he kind of laughed and said no,,, "its a 383 stroker"

1. Do LS1's stroke to 383's normally?
and
2. If it WAS a stroker, wouldnt it have been making SOME kind of noise? It was quiet, and I didnt notice ANY distortion at idle that would have led me to believe cams had been swapped...

I just asked if he'd been to the track yet and he said nah, I just said,
"yea, I just went 13.8 last month" and we basically said nice car and later with a wave...

I wanted to say,, too bad you'd lay waste to me by a half second if you were still stock [&:]

The LT1 350 would stroke to 383. The LS1 I assume would as well being it was on the same block design as I understand it. Good running little motors though I hate to admit it. But nothing in my opinion when compared to a good old 351 Cleveland worked over. My friend has one in a 66 Ford F-100 show truck he runs once every blue moon for fun. Saw him run run it at the track once on street tires. Has ladder bar suspension, lowered down, 373 rear end, C6 tranny with about 4000 invested. Ran 12.79. I kid you not, saw the numbers post after his run and couldn't believe it. Truck weighs 4978 onthe scale at the track. WhatI wouldn't give to drop that engine in my little yellow buggy with a good suspension.

Yes, the LS1 would stroke out to a 383. That's the smallest stroker they make for them I've heard. I agree with you tho, It wouldnt make a whole lot of sense to stroke it, and not do a badass H/C/I setup

Did you even read his post?

1. 383ci is the most common stroker kit for LT1s and LS1s.
2. Pushrod engines have only one cam..
3. With a 13.8 he's either full of $hitor can't drive. 383LS1s areeasy mid to low 12 second cars.

Try easy mid to low 11's. My car is a stock bottom end with a cam and supporting mods and it runs mid to high 11's. As for the sound, the tune can be a huge factor as well as the centerline on the cam. I have a friend who made over 400 rwhp (Dynojet)with a stock cube, stock bottom end LS1 and his car is very quiet because he runs a stock WS6 cat back and a cam with a 117 CL.

About the only thing the LT1 and LS1 have in common is the number of cyclinders.
