CAMS
I want to get Stage II cams w/ a custom grind but do I need headers? I would upgrade to a catted H pipe prior and maybe port heads depending on the cost. I like the sound of cams and was thinking VT cams.
Has anyone do this before results not worth it???

if you want the benefit from the cams , a couple things are neccessary. headers help alot , head work helps alot , but mainly valve train. you need to upgrade that .480 lift to like .550 or .600 to get that bad *** gain.
I guess I am not sure. I think I am looking for a custom grind because stage IIs will be too much for my stock motor in terms of peak rpm's so I thought a custom grind would do better? I am after performance but really want a noticeable CAM idle.
Do you know approximate range for labor costs for cams and porting? Any cams good for N/A and possible future F/I upgrade. I don't know if I will go F/I but don't want to by cams twice...

If you want a custom ground set, you can have a custom lift/duration set up for your specific application, and if they tighten up the lobe separation angle, it will give you that lope that we stang owners like. If you buy a set off the shelf, a stage 2 will work with manifolds and stock heads, but ported heads and headers will obviously work better with the cams to help the engine breathe easier, so you can do your mods one step at a time if you want, also when you get cams, go with VT...Scott will help steer you in the right direction...
