In all reality, if there are no visible mods *and you'd think there woudl be several to out run a S197 so easily* there is ZERO way to know if it's not just terrible drivers until he goes to the drag strip and brings back some numbers.
If he pulls off some normal 14.0-14.2's, then we can say everyone he has raced sucked *and unfortunately, that would include yourself*
But if he goes, and runs some crazy 13.5 or something *still wouldnt account for molesting a S197* but it would lead you to believe that SOMETHING actually IS done to his car instead of driver errors.

Only way to tell is to go to the strip. If he pulls out a 13.50@103 or something you know the car has a mod, if not its stock and he is simply a better driver.
There is almost zero chance its a "freak". Factory freaks disapeared with the 60s. you heard of freaks back then because it was entirely possible to have a cam that was out of spec laying around (or something simliar)and have it get thrown in the car. With todays manufacturing principles and practices the chances of this are less than zero.

this guy hasnt chimed in on what his exhaust sounded like.. was it lopey?? im thinking full exhaust with ported heads and/or cams and maybe gears. a non-visible bolt on gt wont outrun a s197 without mods.. and if the mods arent typical visible bolt-ons you see in the engine bay.. then he has H/C work
the car was bone stock, we went togheter to buy the car, remember he's my cousin so there is no bs between us, no botle and i know how how a cobra engine looks like, he ran 13.91@101 mph with dr's, but hes car pull hard in top end, i told him to take our cars to the dyno to get some #'s

Even if he did go 13.9, that would explain beating your car, or maybe a geared new edge with a fair driver, but certainly not enough to pull on that s197 he beat up on.
Bad driver explains that one

I am tempted to say driver mod...just because I went up to Fun Ford in NH last weekend and most of the new edge stangs that had minor bolt ons were running 14.6-14.9. The cars are definately capable of more than...even the S197s were running 14's. That track is less than one hundred feet above sea level, and it was a cool day, so it wasnt the temps throwing people off. I think people just have a hard time getting what there car is capable of out of their car.
As far as pulling away on cars that have more mods, I know from personal experience that its entirely possible. Last time I was at the track...about a month ago I pulled on a guy that had more mods than me with gears. I am still a believer that unless you have some stickies out back and some suspension to help the car hook its not worth getting gears. I literally could see my car pull on the guy next to me while we were both in gear, so shifting had nothing to do with it.

Like it was said before...you can havea fast car, but its the driver that makesthat car gofast. Its all in the driver, if you can dive and drive good, then you'll go fast. Case in point, my friend has a 2002-03 F-150 lighting, with the works...and my stock04 gt. has no problem keeping up with him....supercharger and all [:-]
