Meth overrated???
I hear about these cars making 40, 50, 60 even 70 more rwhp with meth. My buddies cobra only made 10 more rwhp with 24 degrees of timing! It must just be the non intercooled cars that make these big numbers with the meth. I am not impressed. Discuss.
no, thats actually pretty accurate, most of the gain from methanol injection comes from its boost cooling properties, not so much its 120 octane rating, and while it does allow you to run more timing, so does an intercooler, so even if he is seeing 24 degrees of timing, there is only going to be a real gain if there was a large gap in timing before methanol injection. If he did go from something around 19 degrees to 24 degrees, then I would say definately talk to a different tuner. My car had a 50rwhp gain from methanol, but it isn't intercooled yet, so the difference caim mainly from the fact it cooled the intake charge, and usually gains will be larger in a warmer climate.
He thought maybe going to a different tuner would result in more power but the a/f was perfect. He went from 17 degrees without the meth to 24 degrees with it and only gained 10 rwhp. His air intake temperature was very good in the mid 100s range without the meth. If he added that much timing and the a/f was perfect then do you think another tuner could do any better? I mean, perfect a/f and running the timing on the edge would be the best you can get wouldn't it?
