RE: How do/did you learn about cars?
well luckily one of my first cars was an 89 ford taurus sho, and that **** broke on a weekly basis, so it was either learn how to do it yourself, or pay 8 grand to repair it all the time, lookin online in forums, and talkin to other mechanics really helped

i learned alot from other people teaching me (mostly family members who race, and build hotrods as a living) i also learned by lots and lots of reading/studying, but most of all i learned from just doing it

Reading, a little mechanical aptitude, and having the ***** to do everything yourself. Replacing the entire rear end suspension and gears in a weekend needing the car to goto work on monday was the only thing that i was a little worried about; but sunday night at 11pm rolled out of the garage with no gear whine. You just gotta man up and do it though.... otherwise you never learn.

there is a difference in a mechanic and a technician. im 18 and ive been working on cars for 4 years at my dads shop. my dads a mechanic my grandfather was a mechanic and so was my other grandfather. if you give me something and tell me what part to put on it, its like handin a fat kid a piece of cake and tellin him to eat it, no problem. but the difference in a mechanic and a technician is the diagnosis portion of the bizz. not to cut my self short as i am pretty decent at diagnosing but im actually attending UTI to learn more.

I dont know as much as everyone else on here, but i know more than a lot of people my age. everyone comes to me about questions and problems and i ca usually give them a ballpark of whre it is or what it is. nobody in my family was really into cars. but ive been into them since b4 i could drive. or even think about driving. i was looking stuff up on the internet and reading magazines. and over time (im 18 now) i learned and am teaching my brother and friend what i know. but yes it has to be something u love and i have a passion for cars. thats my story lol

I learned by being a cheap bastard and wanting to have pride in my car by knowing that I built it and not somebody else. I read alot and and research on what Im going to do. I have a few friends that are school trained that helped me learn but at times they still come to me for help. I guess it mostly came naturally.
