Default Cam Pricing?

Called Strictly Performance in Houston to get some advice about a cam install. I told him I wanted a VT stage 1 cam he kept stressing P&P the heads, which I know would be ideal but im not made of money at the moment. P&P isnot really neccesary is it with stage 1? (if i had the money i would just run stage 2 heads and stage 2VT cams). Also this was my quote seems really high to me I could have a sick NX plate kit setup for the price of jsut the P&P. Thoughts?

VT Stage 1 cam= $550
Cam Install= $1000
P&P= $1400
Dyno Tune= $550

You dont need to get your heads P&P'd with stage one cams. Itll give you a little more kick but it doesnt matter. For stage 2 heads i would strongly suggest that you get aftermarket or ported heads but honestly i wouldnt really waste my money. And thats dumb. A set of new (stage 1 or 2) heads are like 1250 right now through american muscle and they want to charge you 1400 to port your old heads?

if you are after performance i sujest that you do the p&p while you have the car apart, or your goin to wish you did later. but if your just goin after the cam sound you'd be ok with just installing the cams, and you will get some hp gain out of it.

What was included in the cam install? Are they going to degree the cams and shave the keyway and set your timing perfect? If so then that takes alot of time and could be why its so high for the install.

No becuase to do a cam install you dont have to take out the heads, which is a huge pain.

WOW!! Go somewhere's else! First off, $1k to do cams??? It takes like 4 hours to do them! Also, $550 for dyno???? What are they smokin? Should be no more than $350-400. I'm in NY and it's $$$$. The top guy wants $350 for dyno/custom tuning. If you drive the car daily stage 1 is good, if not then go with stage 2. You will need gears for the stage 2, but you will def. notice big improvement. I would say you would notice a bigger improvement with stage 1 cams and a P-51 intake than P&P with stage 1's.
Also, you need to get the heads CNC'd and not done by backyard dremel!!! You can buy all newly rebuilt stage 2 heads for less than they want just to do your used heads! They need a swift kick in the ballz
