Default Radar Detectors

My cobra radar just got fried a few months ago... I guess it was from the sun and the heat. It was ok, but didnt have the best range. Anybody got any inputs on good radar detectors. I know thePassports are awesome but they are also 400$ and that seems a little ridiculous for a radar detector.. [:'(]

I just got the bell rx65 and I'm pretty happy with it. It has excellent range and has some good user features. The only down side for me is the x-band false alarms that I get in the city. It does have a feature to change the setting to low-xand no-x (which I set it to) since my city uses laser all the time. I read somewhere ofthe new passport which uses gps to map speed trap locations and false alarms looks pretty sweet!!

Valentine V1 Radar Dectector or the Escort Passport 8500 x50 :] (i have the escort one)

those are the two best and well known radar detectors.

main difference between the two..
V1 uses old technology like the orig. Passport 8500 (not x50) where it doesn't have the new "POP" Band that the x50 has. BUT... V1 has directional radar detector as appose to Escort doesn't.

and in california, atleast where i live, the cops here use POP pretty often and their not suppose to use Pop for giving ticket reasons from what the Escort Manual says...
