I would do the enitire 31 spline setup, but it is possible that rear flex caused your gears to get misalgined etc and break the teeth off.
You should also have the axle tubes and torque boxes welded for extra strength.

The 31 spline kit is simply stonger, just because you broke the acutal gear this time doesn't mean you will next time.
Welding the axle tubes means they weld them to the diff. They just put a nice fat bead around the axle tube welding it to the diff, so the tube won't seperate from the diff and explode the entire rearend. You will definatly want a performance shop to do this, and if you ask them if they can and they say "whats that" don't have it done there. It must be done correctly, or you can warp the rearend.
The torque boxes are the same deal, they weld them up so they don't bend/brake on hard launches.
I would definatly be going with a full 31 spline setup, new carrier etc etc if I was you plus the welding and the rear diff cover. With your 4.30s and a 31 spline your going to be LAUGHING at 1.7 60' times with a new set of tires.
Put it this way, I haven't even destroyed my stocker yet (stock + 3.73 + girdle) and I am going to have MCP put in some 31 splines etc etc. I want some mean 60' times next year, and with the 31 spline setup you will have little/no worry of having to haul it back on the trailer.
