Default CAI...false advertising

I've read a lot on this forum about CAIs and the consensus seems to be that most everyone says they do next to nothing as far as HP gains. However, most manufacturers of these CAIs claim 8+ RWHP gains from bolting them on. JLT's site says to expect 8-12 RWP gain from their true cai. What gives? I also read a big writeup from a mustang magazine of some sort...granted this was a test on the 05 Stang, but they were dynoing CAIs on a stock 05 and a number of these produced anywhere from 15-22 HP gains. Seems like a lot of people are testing CAIs and getting good results, then you read most people on forums say they don't do jack.

Actually the 05's with CAI + a tune do make good gains..
People are stupid. They think that just because you put a CAI on your car and you cant "feel" it that it doesn't do anything. No youre not going to put a CAI on and snap your head back into the seat. But it does HELP. And with our slow 2V's every little bit counts.

Mostof the benefit is going to be at max airflow, which means max RPM.

The 3V's gains usually come from the tune alone. Ford left a lot of timing on the table with them.

The manufacturer can make those claims because its not a peak hp claim. The 8-12 hp can be anywhere in the powerband, say after you install it, your hp at 2k rpms goes up by 1 hp and at 2.1k rpms it gaines 2 hp.. well there you get 3 hp over stock!...

Anyways the 3v benefits from a cai and tune more than a 2v because the 2v is choked by our heads, the 3v is choked a bit from the actual intake and like the other person said, ford tuned the 3v's very conservatively.

They can state anything as long as there are loopholes. Its business, as long as they don't tell you, your car will fly, they'll be fine. Kinda like the turbonators, they do crap for your car, but due to the psychological affect of having it in, people ease off the gas peddle and such, therefore their research is "backed up" lotsa stuff out there in the automotive world do nothing. I would lump any harder upper control arm bushings into this pile as well
