Your best bet is to just save your pennies and buy a new engine, either that or completely rebuild it with all new forged internals.

i know the later cobras have a 7rl but does the machs? theyre the same engine just with out the s/c huh?
You can raise your redline to what ever you want......
[ol][*]Your Bottom End Will not handle it(Blown Motor)[*]You wont make any power past 5800-6k ( so why raise it)[*]If you get heads and Cams you will now make power to 6500+(Again Bottom End Wont Take it) Blown Motor![*] The 03 Cobras have a Built Motor THe Mach 1's Dont have a built motor. [/ol]

It sounds to me like you just want a car that is going to make power, higher in the RPM range.

You've got 3 options.

[ul][*]Save a ton of money for a bottom end, heads, cams/upgraded valves and make less than 300hp to the wheels. [/ul] [ul][*]Save a ton of money for a Cobra, or a 5sp Mach 1. [/ul] [ul][*]Save money, sell the Mustang, *being serious here* buy some sort of high revving 4cyl like an RSX or a RX-8.
[/ul]

Anyone know with a stock 97 block what rpm valve float comes into play? I would think that this would be a problem before the blown motor, but I could be wrong.

I read that in a stock 2v 4.6 that valve float would occur at about 7K rpms, but the book also suggests that it could happen at as early as 6400 rpms. This was in some ford manual so I think its pretty acurate. It seems like a large interval from 6400 to 7000 but they said its no garuntee that the springs can handle much more than 6500 rpms anyway.

I think I read the same thing then, I just didnt wanna throw 6400 out there as it seemed a bit early. lols.. but 600 rpm gap, gotta love Ford engineering^^
