I have a 1996 GT with around 170k and it is about time I look into getting a new engine or rebuilding the one I have. I don't know to much about the mechanical aspects of engine but I figure that a 5.0 should fit. I need to know what else I would have to do in order to get the best performace out of the switch. Also, is it possible to go even bigger, maybe a 5.4 or anything else. I just want to know if it would be worth it and if it would work. Thanks.

6.4L TT powerstroke diesel ftmfw! torque monster! that would be soo badass lol 300+hp/600+tq .... would take a **** load of custom work to make it fit though....for your gt i would maybe look into a 347 stroker...

5.4 wouldbe a practical, and not too expensive swap, like someone said a navigator swap would be good, that's a 5.4L engine with 4v heads. it'd be the most cheapest route probably if you want bigger displacement with modular motors in stangs.

+1 The powerstroke would fit lol with a little work. But its too heavy. The put a duramax in a C5 Z-06 so anythings possible. But man how sick would that be.
