I live in Missouri and drove the whole time during this weekends ice storm. I put 2 truck batteries in the back and didnt drive like an idiot. The car did fine.
Well when there hasn't been any reports of ice on the road, it hasn't rained in about a week, and there is no snow... ever.. and your doing 70mph on the highway and you hit a patch of ice. Not too much you can do about it.

Driving in snow isn't really that hard...

edit: but that was with my auto v6 stang.
