gears
im putting in my gears tomorow (good excuse to get out of a family party). how do you heat cycle the gears to break them in, i heard there was a way where you heat them up then let em cool down instead of pu$$yfooting it for 500 miles.
drive them for a couple of miles highway and city, i think 4-5 cycles, let them cool all the way down... someone correct me if im wrong...
when i did gears in my truck i just pussyfooted them for 500 miles... hardest thing to do...

Two ways like a girl or like a man. Drive it around for a whiel making sure you don't feel and Irregularities. About 50-100 miles. Then beat the tar out of it.
Lots of debates on breakin periods for engines and gears. Personal preferance. Some old guys say break it in like you drive it, some are the opposite. I noramally start out with the intentions of going slow. Then for some god awefull reason I decide it's not taking long enough and then beat the **** out of it.

Well I have yet to have "new' gears installed yet, but I did do a little breaking period for my clutch. Went about 300 miles (of the 500 that I was supposed to go) and then took it to the track. My mechanic says break in periods are just insurance for the manufactures, so if they give you a POS product, they can blame YOU for not "breaking it in properly."[8D]
