TO THOSE WITH KENNE BELL S/C's
i'm in the process right now of building my motor up and putting the kenne bell 2.1L big bore kit on in may. i was wondering how you build your motors (compression ratio (what cc pistons), cams, heads, etc.) how much boost you are running, intercooled or non-intercooled, and some dyno numbers. i haven't ordered any parts yet, because i'm still trying to find out what the best set up would be. also, where did you buy all of your parts from. hope i'm not asking for too much, but i need to get cracking on this project. i have everything pulled and torn down, and i have $2,000 right now to get started. any help is appreciated!

As far as money goes, you're about halfway there.I have the 2.1 running 6 lbs. non i/c but it shows 7 on the dyno. I'm putting down 330 rwhp and the only thing I've done is put on 70 mm throttle body and a cai from tuneable induction. My BBK cai didn't fit right. The rest of the engine is stock and it now has 100,000 miles on it. I also have BBK shorty headers, Mac prochamber, and Mac catback, with 4:10 gears, H P Motorsports lca's and sub-frame connectors, a Steeda Tri-ax shifter and a Centerforce dual friction clutch. I recently changed out my coils because I had a miss and that took care of the problem. The only thing the K/B kit doesn't come with is the spark plugs, which need to be one range colder. Hope I helped out. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have the 2.2L kit with intercooler running at 8lbs. The rest of the motor is pretty much stock so becasue of that I hadit only tuned to get 403hp to the wheels for now (which is what it dyno'd at).Like bt1288 said the 2.1L kit has everything you need except for the spark plugs which should be 1 range colder.... If you only have$2000 now then just keep saving up... you are about half way there.. If you are going to have a shop install it then I would callyour local shop and havethen give you an estimate on how much everything will cost (including install and dyno tune)b/c their are always little things here andthere thatcome up later that youmight not have planned for.

If you get a KB s/c do you have to get you motor forged....or is it cool to just run with a low set s/c?....with minor mods??

No you don't need a forged motor.. just keep the hp around 400 or so and you are completly fine with an otherwise stock motor.

i think an all stock motor + the kenne bell 2.1 non intercooled at 8 psi is somewhere between 370-390 RWHP. thats about the limit i believe.
the kenne bell is considerably easy to install.. i found it way more difficult to do my cam install than the kenne bell. though i did have the help of a well seasoned (30+ years) mechanic.

I bought Motorcraft plugs that were 1 step colder, don't remember the number. You also need a tube of Permatex ultra black sealant forthe bolts that go into the coolant crossover that hold the front motor plate on. Don't use plumbers tape or paste. I also didn't use their tune. I had mine dyno tuned with a SuperChips X-cal tuner.
