Default Suspension ???'s and advice

I have an 03 Stang GT and am looking for some suspension upgrades, specifically a coil over suspension system. I'm looking at the Maximum Motorsports Complete Coil-Over Package at ~$1600.00.

Coil-Over Package, 1994-04 Mustang

Our Coil-Over Packages include the following parts:

[ul][*]MM Front Coil-Over Kit[*]MM Rear Coil-Over Kit[*]Pair 2-1/2" Hypercoil Springs[*]Pair 2-1/4" Hypercoil Springs[*]Bilstein HD Front Struts[*]Bilstein HD Rear Shocks[*]MM Caster/Camber Plates[/ul]

I'm working towards a quality streep/strip car that is for now a DD...but will not stay that way. So my questions are as follows.

- Are coil overs worth it?
- Is this a good reputable kit, personal experiences with it or others?
- What spring rates should I be looking at?
- What else is out there?
- Other advice, constructive criticism and options?

Thank you all in advance for your replies and time.

Rick

coilovers will get you the same wheel rate without sacrificing the same amount of ride quality lowering springs make you sacrifice. They are adjustable in height, easily adjustable toe, caster, and camber, plus it does not require an aftermarket k member.

As for the alternatives, MM and griggs would be the only company I'd recommend for coilovers as they thuroughly track test their products.

I for one love my mm coilover setup. I paid quite a bit less than that cause I found a good deal on the kit plus the rear grip package as well. Lastly, when you buy the mm kit, the only part that does not come with the kit is a phb perch for the driver's side. You could kill 2 birds with 1 stone by ordering their phb as well.

i have to say i'm biased on this topic , i don't give a **** about ride quality , as long as it goes fast in a straight line. but i don't think its worth it. if you are half asthetic / half go fast , and you have money to throw around , their definatley nice. i'm a budget builder , and that seems like a waste. just me tho. i have full drag suspension tho....

I'll just slip in here and do my Post/Pic whoring thing! LOL!

I'm setting my car up as a Road Racer so my Spring/Shock setup is pretty stiff! I would DEFINITELY recommend Maximum Motorsports unless you are going to be doing some REALLY hardcore racing. Even then MM will work but then you may want to look at Griggs SLA Kit too if turning corners matters to you! If your going to be drag racing then I would talk to MM and ask them what the best setup is for that since that type of setup may use different types of parts and coilovers may not be the way to go!

For great performance on the street and being able to carve corners I would add:

SFC's, PHB, TA, Adjustable Rear Sway Bar, Rear Lower Arms, Bumpsteer Kit, Rack relocator kit, K-Member, Front Swaybar Relocator kit.

I'd also do a Cobra R brake swap if I were you!

Thanks! Gotta save up for some real wheels. The ones I have on it now aren't the right backspace and they rub since the car is so low but once I can get the right backspace I'll be able to tuck those babies and turn with the best of 'em! LOL!

Nova - those pics look great.

I'm definitely looking more towards drag racing but I want something that can cut a pretty good corner as well. I know I will have to sacrifice some ride quality which is fine, but I want to keep it reasonable. I'll definitely be speaking with MM about the specifics. Seems people have good things to say about them.

I'd love to put in more but I can't spend quite that much in one shot.

Aereon what is a phb perch, I'm not familiar with this. Also are you set up for drag or auto x?

Thank you all for the guidance thus far

the phb perch I'm speaking of is what the cross bar in this pic is attached to on the drivers side. Notice where the shock is attached, that is a seperate part that will need to be ordered.

I am setup for road racing(autox and soloII events), and unfortunately I'm not rich like novanut to purchase the whole grip box all at once=P I've bought the smaller grip kits mm has to offer and when I can save up I'll purchase the mm max grip box with the parts I have deleted from it.

Ah but Grasshopper, remember, it is not the sum of parts that makes the car corner well, rather, it is the driver that understands how to manipulate the parts he has! LOL!
