Jus startin...
Im new to the site and to Mustangs in general. I just got a 2001 GT that already had the K and N cold air intake installed. Im curious as to know the best place to start out for getting a higher performance from this car...
If the exhaust is still stock, at least get yourself an aftermarket cat-back system. You won't really see any performance gains, but the GT is made to be heard and the stock exhaust just doesn't cut it.
Exhaust, Headers, Gears, Throttle body, Plenum, Tuner, Pullies should be a good start for ya. Then when the money starts pouring in heads and cams will really wake it up. Nitrous and a S/C are good choices. Most people here will automatically tell you to throw a s/c on it and be done but who can afford $4K+ on a kit.
Bolt ons don't do much for the 2v's. Rather than spend money over time, just save up for nitrous or supercharging. The first thing I recommend is an aftermarket catback. Even if you are stock, you have to be heard.
To start though, you could go for some gears (3.73 if you plan on FI and 4.10 if you plan on NA), a short throw (MGW seems to be the most popular and exhaust.

you want traction dont you?
I like all of the advice given so far. The very first thing I did when I bought my 03 GT was a CAI. After that, was the flowmaster cat back system and a Bassani X-pipe. U/D pulleys, and just got my typhoon intake manifold, 75MM T/B, plenum and 160 degree thermostat put on tonite. It runs awesome! I can't wait to get my 3.90's put on and a tune for it and then a dyno run.
so far everyone has hit the nail on the head... but for info on how to do this... or what might be a good company to order from, search around the forums... if you have anyfurther questions we'd be glad to answer them; also don't forget to post up some pics as well as keep us informed of your progress!!
