That sometimes you might redline through a couple gears and think...damn, what is this a ford 500 or a ford mustang? And other times it's like..where did THAT come from..my car is a beast. Or am I just weird? And it's not like when it is uninspiring that anything is going wrong or there is hesitation or anything, it's just every now and then you'll get into it and it just does not pull like it does other times. Do cars have mood swings?

Cars don't have mood swings, they have sweet spots. If you're not in yoursweetspot when you hit it, you'll feel like a 500.

Yeah, mine seems like that too! I think alot of times it is just the quality of air. As in density altitude.

Ambient air can do it--all else being equal, humid and cold = most power; hot and dry = least...

i know if i go from like a 10 roll starting in second, my car will feel slow all the way up through the gears, but that initial launch from a dig and running out first gear makes it seem sooo much quicker, even through 2-5

i think i drive my car the hardest in the winter because you can really feel the difference in power from a colder intake charge. i've never put a car on a dyno to test the difference in power between cold and hot air, buti did putmy circle track car on a dyno a couple years ago when i was tuning it, and after getting the advance curve and a/f ratio right, we did a run without our fuel cooler and one with, and it made 15 extra hp at the rear wheels (of course the motor was already pushing over 500 horses to begin with).

but i know exactly what you mean cause some days my car just seems to get up and go, and others it just feels real flat and boring.

i know that cold air is a lot more dense, my question is how does it make your car run better?? i heard that it kinda bumps up your compression?

More dense = more oxygen per cubic foot (engines suck in cubic feet of air) = more fuel (if the ECU is aware of the denser air) = more power. The MAF is a Mass Air Flow meter, I.e. it measures the mass ("weight") of the air entering the engine, as opposed to the volume (cfm) as was measured by the old AFM (Air Flow Meter). The AFM equipped systemsused air temperature to "guesstimate" intake air density, the MAF systems have a better idea of the actual mass of the intake air. Before someone asks, humidity slows the combustion process and "spreads out" the pressure rise of combustion over time, it will also allow more advanced timing...

Maybe, just maybe! I'm BS'n you. There're days when my car acts as if she's the badest b*tch on the block. Then, we go thru those moments when she ignores my commands.......F*#king B*#tch. But you can shoot em', or drive em' off the nearest cliff. So I wash her and rub her bumper really slow and she's all happy.
