It's to prevent (or at least slow down) the possibility of idiots locking the steering column whilethey are driving--which could be bad for both the idiot, and more importantly me...

You have to press the tab to turn the key to the steering column "lock" and "take the key out" position...It's really not a big deal, I'm 62 years old and have had arthritis for the last 25--if I can turn the car off, press the tab, and remove the key in one motion then certainly you "whipper-snappers" can handle it...

Because with a manual transmission, there is no "Park" gear. In an auto, that is the only time that the key can be turned off and taken out of the ignition. On a manual it can go in and out whenever without anything stopping it. The little tab thing is there to create that "Hey you can't take the key out!" effect.

It's not really necessary if you are one of those people that think and have higher functions than ****ting yourself, but the general public needs it.

Go for it. I liked it myself, but quoting yourself isn't nearly as cool as when other people do it.

after driving the car for 4 years, i dont even think about it, do it all in one motion. actually when driving other cars, i look for the tab when taking the key out. not many cars have it. Kinda stupid.
