shift kit + stall
Is buying a shift kit + stall really a huge difference? I don't take my car to the track, so would it still be cool to buy it anyway? I was lookin' at a 3000-3400 stall. Would that be good to run? Sorry, i don't really know to much about shift kits and stalls.
Thanks.
Thanks.
When you smash the gas whatever RPM it kinda hangs at when you take off is your stall. Stock is like 1700 or something like that. If you put a 3000 stall on it, when you mash the gas, it will go up to 3000 rpm before it hits that point giving you more power on a launch. A shift kits holds the shift a little longer and builds up line pressure so the shift is more firm and faster. This will give you less slippage and a faster shift. However, I would recommend putting in a 2200-2500 stall converter and get a tuner to adjust your shift points and you can turn up your line pressure from there instead of taking your tranny apart or having someone else do it.
I would research this more...there is alot of info on this foruma bout this already. I plan to go with a 3000+ stall and transgo shift kit from the research I have done so far.
not to be a real dick, but search button is your best friend.
I'm not saying you did, but I know a lot of people just open up a magazine or catalog and see a part that should fit their car and kinda jump on it before they really get what it is or if they need it. Example: I remember somebody posted that they just bought spark plug wires for their 02 GT....not knowing we have COP and not plug wires....stuff like that...
Autos can be touchy bastards. If you can do all the work yourself, you'll save a ton of money, but seriously research and figure out everything about the 4r70w as you can before you start thinkin about getting parts. Especially if you're paying someone else to install, its gonna cost a lot to 'fix' something that you dont like or doesnt apply to your driving style
I do all highway drving....i've been to the track twice in three years with my mustang....a stall isnt really for me. I dont really launch it much....and in first/second gear with the auto i pretty much spin through all RPMs....
the bestthree things I say you can do for your auto right now are
1) firming up the shift points (via tuner or j-mod explained here: http://tccoa.com/articles/tranny/tra...on/index.shtml)
2) getting tranny cooler. With spirited driving and especially harder shifts, your trans creates a lot more heat than it would stock/normal driving conditions. With a trans cooler you help keep the fluids cooler and thus less stress on the transmission, fluids dont break down as fast etc etc
3) flush the trans fluid every 20,000 miles....i put royal purple ATF in mine...expensive, but helps it run smoother....added insurance basically
now if you want to start launching hard, start looking at tourque converters/stalls...but from what i can tell yours is a daily driver.....
