this car has a lot of sentimental value for reasons that I can't explain. As for going turbo on the stock drive train... there are a few people who have been very very successful with the KL03 Mazda motor but it is extremely involved to get even into the 300hp range plus at that point the down time with issues is so great it takes a lot of the fun out of it. The transmission is not a point of great strength for these cars and one of the greatest problems is busting tranny cases. I've already gone a completely different direction with this car than anyone else has and I guess I'd like to continue.

GREAT Link! Thank you...

Never MIND... called them and they were complete jerks.

Sorry to hear that man. I have never dealt with them before, just been to their website a few times looking for parts. I will keep that in mind now though IF I ever try them. I believe if building this car, regardless of what make or model, is what makesYOU happy and is whatYOU are proud of, then go for it. I think its a pretty great idea actually, you don't see any Probe's with 03-04 cobra guts, I've seen RX7's with LS1 guts, but really nothing else.Good luck and keep us posted on your build, it should be pretty bad a$$ when its finished.

I was really surprised when the guy said what he said. I asked about that Cobra's drivetrain and he was like its $12,000. All I said was that's out of my price range and that I'll have to go the auction route I guess. He then asked what I meant by auction route and I just said local insurance auctions and a few websites that sell salvage cars and he goes We're on those websites too and we paid $14,000 for this car. So you'll be competing against us, good luck. Then he just hung up. It was rather rude.

I know its been quite some time since I posted anything, but there really has not been any progress. I did secure a 2004 IRS today with 17,000 complete from caliper-to-caliper for $800. I dealt with a lot of different people before finally finding the right one for a reasonable price within driving distance. Other than that I've been in school and will be stuck here for another 32 days, then the real progress will begin

Not that exciting but here is the rear:

I guess I never posted when I got the motor either, I got a 2003 motor with 20,000 miles and a 04 tremec with 4,000 miles last October. It came with all the wiring, ecu and a bunch of lines, hoses and such.

When I originally posted, I had and still have full intentions to follow through with building the "Probra". I picked the engine, transmission, and wiring + misc parts up for $6250 and paid $800 for the IRS. I am now going to start looking for a body to cut up for sheet metal while I pick up the rest of the $200-300 parts like the driveshaft, radiator, etc.

Edit: I added two better pictures of the engine and trans. It came with the billetflow 2.76 as well as the upgraded front pulleys. The valve covers and a few misc parts were also powder coated wrinkle black.
