Default Why all the hate

Why all the hate when you guys see a car that has cobra badges on it? I think ifthe carmerits the badges, as long as the ownerdoesn't truely believe its a cobra, I think its fine. If you think about it, the GT500 never really had the cobra in it's name until the 2007 model year. I have seen the titles to a couple GT500's, and none of them had the word cobra on them, and it really wasn't produced by SVT, so really? do you guys really have to hate on em'? its not like its a V-tech sticker or something. The same thing with either kit cars (AC cobras) or non-original GT500's from the 60's, we are all fine with seeing the cobra emblems on those cars, so why is it a big deal on newer ones? I don't get it

The only real reason I put them on my car (notice, I never put SVT badges on) was to warn people to back the F*** off, and even then I still have everyone and their mother trying to race me. Not only that, but the cobra namesake came from the 428Cobra Jet that was in the first GT500KR, and I have the same pistons and rods that were in the Terminator. Anyway, just a question

it doesnt matter if a car "merits" the badges. you cant merit cobra badges unless you drive a cobra anyways. just because you have a gt that puts down as much or more power than a cobra doesn't make it a cobra. a cobra is a type of car: a type of car that you do not own.if you want people to back off put a nitrous injected or supercharged badge on there. your car is not a cobra. the cobra symbol advertises a completely different engine, suspension, interior and exterior than the car you drive. it represents a legacy even. plus its a bit immature IMO, why are you trying to advertise your power anyways? let people find out on their own...

all this is IMO just so you know... not trying to offend anyone

wait though, I thought the cobra namesake came from the name of an engine,so what does a badge have to do with heritage. After all, the cobra's from 1993-2004 had nothing to do with shelby, and shared almost nothing other than the name. The whole not advertiseing your power is fine and all, but with the drivers in tucson, I don't feel safe having people try and race me every second of every day, which is practically what I experience.

I have the sticker on my back window that says "bottles are for babies, real men get blown," and Im thinking of switch to GT badges, I just don't know why so many people have such a big deal with it.

IMO the Cobra was added to the GT500 name so SVT people wouldn't bitch about not having a Cobra in the current lineup, but I don't know what to tell you about the SVT Cobra's borrowing the Cobra name.

As far as Cobra badges on a car that isn't a Cobra, that's probably a reflection of the owner's personality. I don't like it. I look at it as trying to be something that they/it isn't.

sabes que, maybe I want my car to be titled the serpent, which could then be represented by a snake, correct? I know its not a cobra, but what about the Factory five cars that are AC cobra kit cars yet have the cobra emblem?

and thats fine and all, but the GT500 wore cobra emblems before it was granted the name cobra, so I think its kind of hypocrytical for people to whine about it. IE the 2007 GT500 isn't known to dealers, nor ford, nor insurance companies as a Cobra, however the 2008 is

Thats why I was wondering, because really none of the SVT team that worked on the svt cobras (ie john colleti) worked on the GT500 to the best of my knowledge. (i might be wrong, but thats what I read).

Its kind of noticable though, you never see any of the comercials say the GT500 cobra, they all just say the GT500, because really thats all that matters

Straight up, it offends us purists. It's clearly not what is being untruthfully advertised and makes one wonder why someone would do it that's all. If you want one get one and be proud, if not don't try and convince us that it's a Cobra in 2V clothing, that will just get more guys trying to blow you to the curb emphasizing the point...which seems to be the problem you're encountering right now. It's like "don't insult our intelligence, we know it's not a Cobra and we'll prove it". Just my two cents but original badges belong on original cars...

Im guessing you have a cobra? what if the formerly 2v is now a 4v? what if it has a cobra crank? and a t-56?

Dont worry, I understand what your saying, I actually have the GT badges sitting right next to me, I am just supremely lazy and have a bunch of other crap to do first, not to mention I don't drive the car all that much.I still need to figure out if I screwed the electrical system up before I change the badge, It was just a question. Personally, I try not to let anything at all get to me, I was just wondering why everybody usually got their panties in a bunch, not to worry though.

So wait, can I keep the 4.6 "interceptor" badges even though Im sporting a 298CID with an Interceptor transmission (aftermarket yay!!)
