Its not because they are that much heavier. It is because rotating mass affect's acceleration something like 4 times as much as just dead weight.

1lb of unsprung weight is equal to 2.5lbs of normal weight. So if you can figure out how much heavier each wheel/tire is then you can estimate how much it is "weighing you down."

Also the fact that more of the wheel weight is further away from the hub will effect your acceleration.

From a physics major: With every inch you are increasing in tire size you are increasing the ROTATIONAL VELOCITY quite a bit.

Think how much longer its going to take to do a revolution of the wheel...
