Default question about gears

i dont know much about cars but im really interested in learning more about my mustang and everyone says the best thing to do is purchase gears. so i wus wondering, say i bought 4.10s for my auto, are those actually a new set of gears that get installed and then tuned so ur car will run properly.

and if i have a drivetrain waranty could i get them installed if they are the ford racing gears?

i would go with the 373 ratio for an auto, cause 410s is gonna kill your fuel mileage.

by gears people are referring to the rack and pinion gear in your rear differential. look to spend $250 on the gears alone, at least 300-350 to install them, at the very least $90 on a speedcal to recalibrate your speedometer because the gears will throw it way off. Most will recommend an xcal tuner o rsomething along those lines, which will not only recalibrate the speedo, but also allow for other engine adjustments. to do it right is probably a $1000 mod.

what year is your mustang??
if it is a sn95 you won't need a speed calc....just a little plastic gear you stick in your transmission
