by gears people are referring to the rack and pinion gear in your rear differential. look to spend $250 on the gears alone, at least 300-350 to install them, at the very least $90 on a speedcal to recalibrate your speedometer because the gears will throw it way off. Most will recommend an xcal tuner o rsomething along those lines, which will not only recalibrate the speedo, but also allow for other engine adjustments. to do it right is probably a $1000 mod.

ya i have a 99 mustang gt. and i dont think i can get the tuner to make my car better cuz of the waranty, wont it be voided if i get my car performance tuned?? i just want gears for now so could i buy them and have the dealership install it. and besides installation i just need it recalibrated? someone said i need a plastic thing???

First of all i think the 4.10's are a good choice for the auto....you'll feel a tremendous gain during acceleration.
Second I would get a handheld tuner (SCT, Diablo etc) to change shift points in your trans and will also correct the speedo. These tuners will have performance tunes and will store your stock tune that you can switch back to at anytime. There is a speedo gear that can be replace in the rear end for about $100 if you want to go that route. But i would get the SCT tuner because the your factory tune is set for economy and your shifts will still be sluggish.
