Default new engine?

I was planning on dropping a new engine in my 4.6 96 gt in a couple thousand more miles. Would it be a bad idea to get a bigger engine? Im just looking for some suggestions(new engine size or rebuild)i dont know the amount of work it takes to swap an engine it will be my first one. The car is pretty much stock next to exaust work.

Thanks!

as steve asked... how much do you plan on spending? It can get quite costly... trust me.

What year is your car? You could always just get a 2V 5.4 block and reuse all your accesories/heads/intake manifold(if you get those adapter plate things). Really cheap way of gaining more power and pretty much a stock replacement.

No kidding. There I was thinking oh a forged shortblock is only 2999. It adds up superfast.
