Wow, when I was NPI I remember it being slow, but not that damn slow! Ha ha... You may be in need for the driver mod.

i just boughta 5 speed 97 gt with 130k for $3800. gave the car a tune-up& replaced the intake manifold (the stock one cracked after i had it a month) and i also installed some throttle body spacer's and a cold air, but i still can't beat a single cab silverado. what can i do to beat these trucks. not to expensive plz
Why buy a 97? Unless u plan on doing a PI swap or engine swap, I wouldve dumped a couple grand into a 99 at least. Some trucks/SUV's now a days are legit 14.0-15.0 right off the showroom floor. Grab an off raod x/h pipe, 4:10's and nitto 555r's, these mods should help u a great deal and search different forums to find them used. By the way, your car should run a 14.8-15.1 stock.

shift at 5800, no need to go any higher, you just lose even more power due to the NPI's horrible power after 4000 RPM

As stated above, the best thing you can do is save up some money and then go to a junk yard and get the intake, heads and cams (should already be together on the car, so it would be easy) off of a 99-04 GT. Swap this stuff over and you will see the best gains for the money. I had a 96 GT Vert before and it was painfully slow. Even after mods I was still a 15 second car (it was an auto, so no driver error).
