Default advice on first mod

Hey everyone. My wife has an '03 sonic blue stang with only 20K miles on it. I thought it would be a fun hobby to make it a little faster. She agrees (go figure, right?). I'm not extremely mechanical, so nothing too advanced please. So my question is what would be a good first mod for someone with my skill that would make it faster out of the hole? I care nothing about top speed, just takeoff. If possible please state how much horsepower it might add to it. Thank you very much in advance.

4:10's. Won't add any horsepower but will make the car feel 10x's different. Maybe some stickier tires also if your still rolling on stockers.

4.10 or 3.73 gears but your gonna have to have them installed, and depending on the shop, it can be a little pricy. Other than that, there isnt really anything thats gonna make it faster out of the hole.

Throttle body and plenum is gonna give you better throttle response, but not add that much HP overall.

If the car is an auto then you can get a handheld tuner (SCT XCal 2/3, Diablo) they will make your shift points firmer and better as well as add a few HP to a stock car.

Gears would be the best thing to buy that will make it get outta the hole faster. but stickier tires will help too. or you could just drop ina cobra motor and be done with it. but get gears and have them installed at a local shop will be your best bet.

+1 for gears makin it accelerate faster, but I am a firm believer that an exhaust and an intake (even if its just a K&N filter) should be the first mods to a stang. And they're alot easier to installthan gears. just my .02 though

if you want the best bang for your buck, have gears installed, if it is an auto you will have a totally different car with a tune as it sets different shift points, they are firmer shifts and you will definately feel more power

+1. 4.10's ftw! Although a cai/tune wouldn't hurt either.

K&N, catback, gears, and lowering springs.
