Default Do gears really do this much???

Hey everyone,
I was thinking about getting gears and master rebuild kit for my rear soon. But i really want to know if they do as much as my friends say they do.I know they make the car completely different and make it accelerate a lot faster, but do they really give you better gas mileage if you keep your foot outta it??? One of my good friends says after speedo correction and gears(4.10's), that he gets between 25 and 28 mpg in town!!! And that, he says, includes some racing. Should I believe this claim because, if so, i think that gears have to be done like now because i drive all in town at the moment. So is this true that the mpg goes way up with gears???

Your mpg doesn't go up with gears. Tell him to get his head out of his *** and take some time to learn how gears actually work. Then he'll understand that it's impossible to increase MPG with a steeper gear.

Tell your friend to put the crack pipe down, and walk away.

Your not gonna better MPG with steeper gear, as said before, it just not possible. If anything he picked up a MPG from the tune he got to fix his speedo. (thanks for the correction Steve )

yeah, you pick up it with the tune, gears make you drive at a higher rpm, reducing mpg

I would be willing to be your 0-60 time will be slower with 4:10s unless you have some drag radials and suspension work. One, you'll have to shift twice before you hit 60. Two, without the tire and suspension mods, you won't have any traction. But..I've never done it myself, so take that for what it's worth.
