Default Stock Head Unit

I just put in a sub and we wired the remote switch to the back of the stock head unit to the "hot when started". we tested it when it was off and it was at 0 on our tester then when we turned on there was something like 5.xxx amps going to it so we thought it would be good, i guess it wasnt. Does anyone know of any other way i could wire this. I would rather not go trough the ignition, but if i had to i will. does anyone know if the stock amps have a remote turn on wire that i could just splice into? any help would be great! thanks!

Try using an empty fuse slot. Test them out and find one that turns on with the ignition.
